A TRAVES

This collection of woven pieces narrates my immigrant experience. “A través,” is Spanish for “through,” a spatial and emotional concept that parallels the immigrant experience.

Fragmented identities, assimilation, and feelings of belonging are explored in the collection through the use of double cloth, a weaving technique that allows for simultaneously interconnected weaving.

The second part of the project was of woven structural experimentation in which I explored the same ideas and concepts that I did in my art pieces.

I worked with loose structures and loose yarn to talk about fragility, as well as structures that interconnect and affect each other, much like I did in my previous work

I also wanted to explore what happens when two structures affect and impact each other to reference the pull that I experience from the two worlds in which I coexist
