RESTRAIN AND RELEASE

As a trend forecasting exercise, this project reflects the need for release and expression that followed a years-long restriction due to the pandemic.
TREND FORECASTING

DESIGN PROCESS

Explored the concept of "restrain and release" through different mediums. A consistent theme was the deconstruction of the human body and the representation of movement to signify the need for freedom.
I translated this concept to wovens through the idea of deconstructing a structure to create movement. In these designs, the structure represents the restrain, and the movement, its consequential release.
Color was added to distinguish a cooler "restrained" state and a warmer "released" moment. The opposition of warm and cool colors also adds vibrancy and movement to the designs, emphasizing the concept.
The designs were created for an 8-shaft loom as "summer and winter" wovens. Created and simulated in PointCarre software.
